I’m always so boring with my lip options and I never really adventure out to a different lip. However nothing is more screams Christmas than a red or dark lip. So I thought I’d have to share my four favourite lip products for the season. These are the ones I think I’d actually wear so if you’re like me and want a bold lip for a change or you’re a lover of a darker lip and want some inspiration then you’re at the right place!!
Swatches (Top to bottom) ;
- Kiko Smart Lipstick
- Soap&Glory Sexy Mother Pucker
- BarryM Matte Me Up Lip Crayon
- Clinque Glosswear
Kiko Smart Lipstick 932 –
I’m not a red lip wearer as I’ve always felt like a red lip is a too bold for me. But this red shade from Kiko is my perfect red shade. It’s not too bright and has more of a darker undertone to it. The formula of this lipstick is perfect. It applies super smoothly and evenly and is so moisturising on this lips. I have found this to be quite long lasting however you have no chance on keeping it in your lips when eating to drinking. But I guess that’s what you expect with a glossy finish lip. I’m not too sure if this range is still sold. However it was super affordable and actually much cheaper than the majority of lipsticks from the drugstore so I’d definitely recommend Kiko’s lipsticks.
BarryM Matte Me Up Lip Crayon 5 –
Another red shade that I’ve pulled out from my drawer for the Christmas season is this lip crayon from BarryM. Which I’ve never worn properly but when I tested this out again I loved how it looked. With the right outfit and makeup I’d definitely try and wear this. It has a matte finish which I’m not usually a fan of. However it’s not drying at all so I’m a big fan of this one.
What puts me off a matte lip is the dry feeling you get when you rub your lips together but this lipstick is so moisturising. It’s comfortable on your lips whilst still giving the perfect matte finish. The shade of this when swatched looks quite pink-y toned but it’s not at all when wearing. After trying this out I’ve been super impressed and I think I’ll definitely try to pull this off for Christmas!
Clinique Glosswear Cream Shines ‘Rich Raisin’ –
I got this gloss in a set of five a while ago and these glosses are some of my favourites. They’re so pigmented and this shade is perfect for the season. It’s a darker brown shade but looks like a darker nude on the lip. It’s easy to wear and I love a darker lip for the Christmas season. What I love about these glosses is that they have quite a thick formula and they have so much pigment. As well as having a super glossy finish so it’s the perfect formula. And I also love the applicator on this as it’s not your typical wand. The gloss has a tapered brush not a sponge which applies the gloss smoothly and evenly.
Soap&Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick ‘Plum Jam’ –
The Soap&Glory Mother Puckers are what my dreams are made of. They have a lipstick formula and pigment but a glossy finish which is literally what I live for!! The shade of this, Plum Jam , is a darker shade but because of the glossy finish it doesn’t come out too heavy on the lips. The shade of this is a dark pinky shade with a slight red undertone to it. I love the finish this gives on the lips as the glossy finish makes your lips look plump.
I love pairing this with a lip liner to make my lips look plump and glossy. I’d definitely recommend this as the formula of it is so creamy and moisturising and the shade is dark but so easy to wear on a day to day basis.
What’s one of your favourite lip product for the winter?
Nothing more says autumn makeup than autumnal eyeshadow! I love warm tones and coppers, burgundies and golds and I definitely have a variety of shadows I use in this season so I thought I had to share these three products that I’ve been loving at the moment. And these are three products that I don’t often use however I’ve used them all recently and found them all perfect for the season so I had to share my new obsessions.
Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hour Eyeshadow ‘On and on bronze’ –
First off is a product that I’m sure you are all familiar with as everyone raves about this product and so they should! I’ve always been a huge fan of the Maybelline Color Tatttoo’s as the formula of them is insane as well as they’re incredibly pigmented and long lasting. This shade ‘On and on bronze’ is probably the most popular shades of them all and is definitely a product I will always have in my collection. I love a bronze shade as they’re so easier to wear and so suited for the season and can be worn for a really simple look or blended in for a fuller look on the lid. I also find this so long lasting which is always good for a shimmer shade as it keeps it metallic finish all throughout the day. I’ve never been a huge fan of cream products as I’m always more comfortable with a powder but I find this cream eyeshadow really easy to work with and is quick and easy to apply so perfect if you just want a little colour on the lid when you’re in a rush and it lasts for so long so it’s ideal to use if you’ve got a long day ahead. The Color Tatoo’s are £5.99 from the drugstores which I think is really good value for such a high quality product and the amount of product you get will last a lifetime so it’s definitely worth the money.
Miss Sporty Fabulous Eyes Glossy Shadow ‘Peanut Butter’ –
For me this is always one of them products which I’ll never reach for it but once re-discovered I’ll go wearing it non-stop and then stop using it again however I’ve always loved this product but I always forget about it! I love the formula of this as it’s nothing like anything I own as it’s so creamy and smooth to apply and super easy to blend. I usually apply it directly onto the lid and the blend it out and it works like a dream, it blends really evenly and has a gorgeous finish on the lid as it looks so smooth and glossy on the lid. And what I love most about this is the shade as it’s such a gorgeous nude-y pink and in some lights looks like is has a slight copper undertone to it so it looks gorgeous mixed in with a gold shadow. This is definitely a product that is perfect for when you’re in a rush or need a quick and easy makeup look. I apply it directly onto the lid and just blend out with a brush which takes only seconds and it works so well with a transition shade in the crease and then with this on the centre of the lid and pop a highlighting shade in your inner corner and you have a simple look that takes seconds but perfect for a day-to-day look. And I think this eyeshadow stick is only £2.99 which is such a bargain!
Makeup Revolution Salvation Palette ‘What are you waiting for?’ –
This palette is so suited for autumn as it’s got a range of mattes and shimmers all in shades perfect for this season as there is a range of browns and coppers as well some neutral pinks so this palette has the ideal range and is definitely been a palette I’ve been loving recently. I love how the palette is set out with the shimmers at the top and a row of mattes at the bottom and I often find there is not enough mattes in drugstore palettes but this has enough mattes to use and the shade all work together perfectly. All the shades are so soft and for a drugstore palette do have quite a good long lasting formula however the pigment isn’t top notch. The mattes don’t have amazing pigment however when worked into the crease they do the job however I wouldn’t be running to these shades if I wanted matte all over the eye. But the shimmers are quite impressive as they have quite a lot of pigment as well as the creamy formula so are a dream to apply and blend. And the shimmer on the top row at the very end which is a deep purple with a hint of fine glitter is so pigmented and I have no shade like it as it’s very dark but the tiny flecks of glitter in it give it more shimmer and would be gorgeous in a dark eye look. As well as the highlighting shade on the other end of the top row has quite a lot of pigment so is the perfect shade for the inner corner or brow bone.
What eyeshadow have you recently been loving for the season?
Autumn makeup has to be my favourite as I love a warm shadow and a fuller base compared to the summer months. I brought out an old foundation for this look which I really enjoyed using as well as I used my new obsession which is the Morphe X Jaclyn Hill palette which is the third time in a row that it’s featured in a blog post so I promise the next post shall be some fashion! But for this look I kept it super simple and I find it a really quick and easy look to do and it’s super long lasting which is why it’s one of my go-to looks for the season.
Firstly on the brows I took the ABH Dipbrow Pomade in Blonde which I used to fill in my brows in and I set my brows in place with the L’Oreal Brow Artist Gel in Light/Medium which I focused on the tail of my brow. And as usual I carved them out with the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 1.
After priming my eyes with the Collection Concealer and setting in place with the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder I used the shades Creamsicle and Butter from the Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Palette and blended these in my crease as a base for the look. I then took the shade Pooter to deepen my crease and then blended Pukey onto the outer third of my eye. In the centre of my lid I took Queen which is a gorgeous gold shimmer and then highlighted my inner corner with a mix of Beam and Enlight.
Moving onto my base I took the Nivea Express Hydration Primer which is one of my favourites as it keeps my skin super hydrated. And I took the Freedom HD Longwear Concealer in Green on my cheeks, around my nose and forehead to balance out the redness in my skin.
For foundation I mixed together the L’Oreal Infallible 24hr Matte Foundation in the shade 10 ‘Poreclain’ which used to be way too light for me but I’m so pale at the moment so it was fine! And I mixed this with the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in 52 which worked really well together as although the L’Oreal claims it’s matte it seems to have more of a satin finish. I used to hate the L’Oreal foundation as it never seemed to blended nicely or have a flawless finish that you’d expect however after using it for this look after ages I really enjoyed it and I’ sure I’ll be using it again throughout winter. To conceal and highlight my under eyes I took the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in shade 1 as well as blending this on my chin and forehead. Then for powder I took the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder as I’m not a matte person however I prefer a fuller coverage base for this season so I took this powder lightly over my face and heavier under my eyes and forehead.
For bronzer I used my two favourites at the moment which has been the Makeup Revolution Ultra Bronze which I took lightly to sculpt under my cheekbones and then bronzed my face using the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer which is my all time favourite. And for highlight I used the Collection Speedy Highlighter in the shade 1 ‘Pearly Sheen’ as it’s not too bold however it’s pigmented enough to give a subtle glow and the pearly shade suits the whole look. And I applied the highlight onto my cheekbones, nose, brow bone and cupids bow to highlight my face.
To finish off my eyes I went back in with the shades Butter and Pooter for my lower lash line and took the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara on my top and bottom lashes. And finally I took the Kiko Smooth Temptation Lipstick in 06 which I’m not too sure of as I don’t think it goes amazingly however I love the shade so I just wore it!
What is your go-to autumn makeup like? Kate Xx
My makeup is usually super simple and I don’t really go glam with my makeup but I was having an experiment with the Morphe X Jaclyn Hill Palette and decided to go a little less simple and this ‘glam’ makeup look didn’t take long at all. My eyes took the longest time however I applied my base in 10 minutes which is a world record for me! Also please lets ignore my hair as I wasn’t expecting to take any photos so it was in it’s natural frizzy state…
I started with my brows as always and I used my ABH Dipdrow Pomade in Blonde which I took on a precise brush to shape my brow and then used a thicker brow brush to fill in my brow which I’ve been doing lately as my brows have somehow gone a lot thicker than usual so I find it easier to fill them in with a thicker brush as it’s so much quicker. And then I carved my brows out with the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in shade 1 and I’d definitely say when it comes to carving your brows that less is more as when I use a smaller amount of concealer it always looks better! And I have to apologise for my right eyebrow as it looks absolutely terrible…
After priming my eyelids with my Collection Concealer and Rimmel Stay Matte Powder, I started on my eyes which I’m using the Morphe X Jaclyn Hill Palette which you can read more on here. So I started with the shade Creamsicle which is a warm orange and I took this on a fluffy brush all over my crease which gave the perfect base for the look. I then took the shade Hunts to give more depth and colour to my crease and I made this a tad more precise than shade 1 so I applied it with my Morphe M321 brush and blended it out with a small fluffy brush. To finish off my crease I took the shade Roxanne and I took this precisely in my crease and blended into my outer third. I then took Firework which is a gorgeous burgandy/copper shimmer and I took this in the centre of my lid and a little bit more to the outer third of my eye and I then took a gold shimmer, Meeks, and applied this lightly on top of Firework in the centre of my lid just to give a hint of gold. Then finally I took the shade Beam which is such a pigmented highlighting shade and I took this in the inner corner of my eye.
Moving onto my base I kept it quite simple and I stared by priming with the Nivea Express Hydration Primer as well as using the Seventeen Skin Wow Highlighter on my cheekbones, chin, nose and forehead which gives the perfect dewy base. For foundation I used the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shade 52 which is one of my favourite foundations as it’s light on the face but gives medium coverage. And I then took the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in shade 1 under my eyes, chin and forehead which I blended in with the Spectrum A02 Brush which is one of my favourites at the moment. To set this all in place I took my favourite powder which is the Technic Colour Correcting Loose Powder and I took this lightly all over my face and then more heavily under my eyes and forehead.
To lightly sculpt my cheekbones I took the Makeup Revolution Ultra Bronze Bronzer which I’ve been loving at the moment and I took this under my cheekbones on the Real Techniques Contour Brush. And to bronze I took my all time favourite which is of course the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer in Light and bronzed under my cheekbones and forehead as well as using a tiny bit of the sides of my nose just to add colour not to shape as my nose always looks so pale! For highlighter I took the Mary Lou Highlighter from The Balm and applied this on my cheekbones, nose, brow bone and cupids bow which I love as it’s super pigmented and such a stunning shade.
Then to finish off my eyes I mixed the shades Hunts and Roxanne and applied these lightly on my lower lash line directing it on the outer section but bringing it in to the inner third. And I took the Maybelline Lash Sensation Mascara on my upper and lower lashes.
Lastly I lined my lips with the MUA Lip Liner in Caramel Nougat and lightly applied Brave by Mac on my lips as I then took my favourite gloss which is the Buxom Lip Cream in the shade Dolly which I will never stop loving!
I was pretty happy with how this turned out especially as it only took my a good 25 minutes to do which is record speed for me! What’s your go-to glam makeup like?
If you follow my twitter than you’d probably saw how desperate I was to get my hands on this palette and after being unlucky when it first came to BeautyBay, I wasn’t losing out the second time around! Jaclyn has been one of my favourite Youtubers since day 1 and she’s such an inspiration so of course I had to buy palettes in collaboration with Morphe to support my girl. I had high expectations for this palette as it’s by Morphe and the Queen herself so I knew it would be worth the hype and it definitely is! I have a makeup or two coming up soon with this palette so today’s post is all about the palette and it’s currently still in stock on BeautyBay if you still want to get your hands on it.
Packaging – The packaging of this palette is super slick and I love the simple white with the silver writing as it’ simple but looks glam. The cardboard sleeve has a little bit about Jaclyn and the palette as well as four gorgeous pictures of her and knowing me I’ll keep this in my collection of packaging because for some reason I can never seem to throw away the cardboard packaging… I wouldn’t personally say there is anything wrong with the packaging, I’ve seen some people complain about there not being a mirror however I never use palette mirrors anyway so I’m not too bothered. And the only other thing that slightly bothers me is inside the palette it’s a matte white which is a pain when it gets dirty however this isn’t that much of an issue for me as it usually just stays in my draw so doesn’t get that much dirt and it’s not that hard to clean!
Shades – What drew me toward this palette was the shade range it had as I love all the warm mattes as well as the pink shimmers and of course the bold blue shade was calling my name although I’m likely never to wear it out! I’ve been wanting some warmer toned mattes at the moment, there is some gorgeous neutral mattes like oranges and nudes as well as some more burnt oranges and burgundies which I live for in autumn. As well as some dark brown mattes and a bright turquoise. I was a bit unsure of the matte black when I swatched it as well but after using it on the eye, it has lots of pigment and would probably be my go-to black shadow out of the ones I have. The shimmers bring a big pop of colour to the palette and there is one for every eye look. The first two shades on the top row are both gorgeous and I love using them for highlight as they have so much pigment and are the perfect pearly shades. As well as there is light pinks on the top row which are gorgeous shades and I can definitely see myself loving these shades as they’re not too bold shades. And of course I love the burgandy and golden shimmers which there is a couple of and the gold shade which is in the middle of the fourth row is absolutely stunning and seems never ending in pigment! And of course the bright blue and purple shimmers are insane, they’re both such gorgeous shades and although they’re not my cup of tea I love using them as they do look stunning on the eye, they’re just very bold!
Formula – I had high expectations for the formula of the shadows as I love Morphe’s eye shadow formula and I knew Jaclyn would get it perfect and she definitely did. All the shades are so smooth and creamy and apply so smoothly onto the eye and are all a dream to blend. And the pigmentation of all the shades is incredible, when I was watching I was a bit unsure about some of the matte shades as they weren’t as pigmented as I’d imagined them to be but once I used them on my eye they were perfect and full of pigment so whether this was just due to the fact it was my first time swatching them. However I had no problems with all of the shimmer shades as the pigmentation of the shimmer shades is actually insane! I mean the blue shade in the bottom left corner leaves me speechless every time. I love a shimmer as well so all the pink, gold and silver shades are perfect for me and I can’t compare them to any other shimmers I have as they’re so pigmented and creamy.
Overall I’ve been so impressed with this palette and I’m so happy to have finally got my hands on it, it’s been a long time coming. Jaclyn should be so proud of herself as she was working on it for around 2 years and she got it completely right, every shade is perfect and I can assure you that there will be lots of makeup look featuring this coming up soon!
And I’d just like to say farewell to all my other palettes because they won’t be used in the next month or two as this palette has my heart.
